Petco Foundation Invests In Lifesaving Work of Monroe County Friends of Animals, Inc. Grant of $20,000 will extend efforts to save more animal lives in Monroe County, Tennessee.

Vonore, TN (May 2, 2016) - Monroe County Friends of Animals of Vonore, TN. today announced it has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support construction of its Puppy Holding Facility.      (See pictures at end)

Monroe County Friends of Animals, Inc. (MCFA) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation formed in 2005 to help create the Monroe County Animal Shelter. The organization supports the Monroe County Animal Shelter through fundraising and in-kind donations of time and materials to ensure the continued success of the shelter.

In addition to hands-on animal care at the shelter, MCFA brings educational programs into area schools, provides spay and neuter vouchers to local low-income pet owners through its partnership with Spay Neuter Assistance for Pets [SNAP] and promotes public awareness throughout the community. As of January 2016, over 20,000 animals have been saved by the efforts of MCFA's volunteers.

The Petco Foundation investment will help to provide a dedicated space for puppies apart from the adult shelter population. The Monroe County Animal Shelter currently receives multiple litters of puppies each week who are susceptible to contagious diseases that may be introduced by older animals. Plans to build a separate Puppy Holding Facility with self contained HVAC and proper drainage will provide a safe and healthy area specifically for puppies.

"This grant from the Petco Foundation will allow MCFA to expand the facilities to provide a safe, healthy environment for puppies received at the shelter enabling us to save more animals. We are grateful that the Petco Foundation has provided this grant and has confidence in our program to save as many animals as possible for future adoptions where there is a need." said Dale Polewach, President of Monroe County Friends of Animals.
